Five Essentials to Keep In Your Glovebox for Safe Driving

Five Essentials to Keep In Your Glovebox for Safe Driving

You keep your car’s registration and proof of insurance in your glove compartment, that’s a given. But have you thought about what you should keep in your glovebox for safe driving?

Whether you’re packing your car for a road trip or just looking to prepare during everyday driving, what you keep in your glove compartment can help keep you safe on the road. These five items should be at the top of your to-keep-in-the-car checklist.

First aid kit

Make sure your kit is stocked with adhesive bandages, gauze, and a topical antibiotic ointment in case of injuries. You’ll also want ibuprofen or acetaminophen (or both!) for pain relief. If you or a family member has severe allergies, consider stocking up on a backup treatment for that, too.

Flashlight

Don’t get caught on the side of the road in the dark without a flashlight! If your car battery dies, you won’t have your headlights to help you out. This is one must-have you’ll definitely regret not bringing along.

Tire pressure gauge

It’s easy to tell when your tire is flat, but if it’s leaking air slowly, you won’t notice for a while. However, a slow leak can affect your tire wear, gas mileage, and alignment. This can lead to an increased risk of blowouts or flat tires- not what you want to deal with on the road! Check your tire pressure monthly, or even more often if you’re on a long trip to ensure safe driving. It only takes a minute and you won’t regret it.

Roadmap

Much of the area around Billings and throughout Montana still doesn't have cell phone service. And phone batteries can die when we least expect it. GPS maps aren’t always available, so make sure you’ve got a paper map in case of driving emergencies.

Owner’s manual

Did a light come on and you don’t know what it means? Check your owner’s manual. Not sure how full to fill your tires? Check your owner’s manual. It’s an invaluable resource to keep in your glovebox.

Stay safe on the road by keeping your car maintenance up-to-date and tires properly cared for. See us for all your vehicle needs whenever you’re ready to hit the road.
