Wheel alignment is something most drivers have heard of, but not everyone knows what it means. It helps your tires wear evenly and last longer, and it can help your vehicle handle better on the road. Having properly aligned wheels can also increase your gas mileage.
Wheel alignment, also called tire alignment, actually refers to your vehicle’s suspension, not the wheels themselves. Good alignment means your suspension is keeping all of your tires pointing forward in the same direction. As you can probably guess, this means all of your tires are in alignment with each other!
Some of the simplest ways to know your wheels need to be realigned are to check for uneven tire wear and to see if your vehicle pulls to one side when you’re driving.
If your tires have more wear one side than the other, they’re likely off balance or out of alignment.
When you’re driving in a straight line, does your vehicle pull to one side or the other? If you need to keep pulling the steering wheel slightly to one side while you’re going straight, it could be an alignment issue.
Sometimes a steering wheel vibrating while driving, especially at higher speeds, can indicate alignment being off. This is more often a balance issue, which can also be fixed by Staley’s tire professionals.
