Although we've had a wet, somewhat cold start to our summer here in Montana, hot weather is still on the way. Since summer is the most popular travel time, we want to make sure you're staying safe and cool on the roads this season. After all, there's nothing worse than a flat tire when you're trying to get somewhere fun!
Remember to check your tire pressure regularly and keep it right at the PSI that your manufacturer recommends. Hot weather causes the air in tires to expand, so an overinflated tire puts you at a higher risk for a blowout.
Along with this, visually inspect your tires often and before every trip. Look for any signs of damage, including debris poking your tires, low tread depth, or signs of damage to the rim. If you've got any tire damage, bring it in to Staley's for repair before continuing to drive on it.
In addition to keeping your tires properly cared for, batteries can take a lot of damage in hot summers. Hot weather can cause breakdowns, and extra travel means increased vibration for batteries. Make sure your battery is installed correctly with the clamps on tight in the right place.
You’ll also need to keep your fluids filled. Coolant keeps your engine from overheating; make sure it doesn’t run low! That’s one of the fluids we check during an oil change, so keeping a regular car maintenance and oil change schedule is an easy way to ensure your fluids are monitored by professionals regularly.
Don’t forget about the weather, either! Whenever possible, park in a garage or shelter to keep your vehicle’s body and paint job safe from sudden summer storms. And when you’re out and about, try to park in the shade, like under a tree, to keep your truck cooler while you’re not in it. That helps keep your interior from aging as quickly.
